More House committee chairs named

MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives announced more committee chairmanships on Thursday, including that of Bataan Representative Henedina Abad, wife of Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, who was named head of the committee on energy, and Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos, who heads a special committee, the Millennium Development Goals.

Mandaluyong Representative Neptali Gonzales II, the House majority leader, said the chamber has organized 60 of its 69 committees and is ready to work full blast on pending bills and resolutions by next week.

More than 2,000 bills and resolutions have been filed with the House and need to be referred to the proper committees for action.

Other committee chairs are Akbayan party-list Representative Walden Bello (overseas worker); Mt. Province Representative Maximo Dalog (North Luzon Growth Quadrangle); Camarines Norte Representative Renato Unico Jr. (youth and sports); Butil partylist Representative Agapito Guanlao; Zamboanga del Norte Representative Cesar Jalosjos; and Marikina Representative Marcelino Teodoro (legislative franchise); Negros Occidental Representative Julio Ledesma IV (science and technology);

Alagad partylist Representative Rodante Marcoleta got the committee on poverty alleviation; Sultan Kudarat Representative Arnulfo Go heads Mindanao affairs; Pangasinan Representative Primicias-Agabas heads the committee on revision of laws; Zamboanga del Sur Representative Victor Yu heads the reforestation committee; and Zamboanga del Sur Representative Aurora Cerilles heads the committee on welfare of children.
